Debashis Das, the second highest rated chess player of Orissa, secured his third and final norm for the International Master title at the 11th Dubai Open International Chess Tournament in Dubai today.
Debasis drew his ninth and last round duel against Georgia Grandmaster Gagunashvili Merab to finish with five points. The Cuttack teenager won four games, lost three and drew the remaining two.
However, the tournament proved to be a good experience for Debashis as he got the opportunity to play against five Grandmasters. He beat one those five and drew against two.
Debashis now needs to improve his Elo rating from a present 2352 to a minimum of 2400 to be eligible to get the IM title.
